On December 5-6, 2024, the I International Scientific Symposium on "Azerbaijani Language and Literature Studies in the Turkic World" was held, organized by the Department of Languages and Literatures of Khazar University, with the support and partnership of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, Azerbaijan Diaspora Support Foundation, Nar, Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association, ANAS, Türkiye’s Ege, Atatürk, Kars Caucasus Universities, and Uzbekistan's University of Economics and Pedagogy.
The symposium aimed to comprehensively discuss the current situation of the Azerbaijani language and literature outside the country, particularly in the Turkic world, the work carried out in its research and promotion, and to identify problems and perspectives in this field.
During the opening ceremony in Khazar University's Marble Hall, Department of Languages and Literature Head, Assoc. Prof. Dilbar Zeynalova expressed hope that the symposium would create a bridge between the Turkic world and make a significant contribution to promoting the Azerbaijani language and literature internationally.
At the event, Khazar University's Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Prof. Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli substantiated the symposium's topic and the values it carries. Referencing sources and personalities of historical, national, political, and scientific importance from "Diwan Lughat al-Turk" and "Book of Dede Qorqud" to the modern era, he spoke about values common to Azerbaijan and the Turkic world, emphasizing the symposium's alignment with this line and its importance for comprehensive development.
Speakers including Ege University Professor Prof. Yavuz Akpınar, State Committee on Work with Diaspora's Department Head Dr. Cavid Ismayil, and Nar Public Relations and Corporate Communication Department Director and Khazar University alumnus Hokuma Karimova discussed the symposium's significance in the scientific and cultural development of the Turkic world.
The symposium, aiming to draw attention to language and literature issues of Azerbaijanis in the Turkic world, actualize linguistic-philological research, investigate literary personalities' works, and strengthen communication among Turkic world intellectuals and researchers, continued with scientific presentations across panels, bringing together Turkish, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, and Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic scholars and researchers for scientific and cultural development.
Over two days, nearly 100 scientific researchers participated both in-person and online with diverse theses.
On December 6, within the symposium framework, Kars Caucasus University associate professors İlkin Gulusoy and Sema Şahin Dede presented their book "Comparative Idiom Knowledge of Türkiye Turkish and Azerbaijan Turkish" at Khazar University's "Dünya" School.
The symposium concluded with a scientific, musical, and artistic program dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Azerbaijani great artist and Turanism propagandist Jafar Jabbarly.
