On June 20-21, 2024, the dissertation defense for master's students studying Linguistics and Translation at the Department of English Language and Literature of Khazar University took place. The students defended their dissertations on various topics: Aygun Najafli: "Social Varieties of English", Zeynab Hasanova: "The Possibilities of Translating Proper Names from English into Azerbaijani", Narmin Zamanli: "Contrastive Analysis of Body-Related Idioms in English and Azerbaijani", Nargiz Novruzlu: "The Challenges in Translation of Commercial Advertisements", Shamkhal Badalov: "Reconstruction of Azerbaijani EFL Learners’ Identity in Light of SLA Experience", Abdullah Miftachul Irvan: "A Sociolinguistic Analysis of Multilingualism in Indonesian Context", Fatima Mammadova: "Borrowing as a Word Formation Process in the Globalization Era: The Case of English to Azerbaijani", Afat Gahramanova: "The Role of Code-Switching in Azerbaijani EFL Classrooms", Firuza Dadashova: "An Investigation of Linguistic Realizations of Racism in Political Discourse", Laman Umarova: "An Investigation of Euphemism and Dysphemism in Political Discourse",Sabina Ahmedova: "A Comparative Quality Assessment of ChatGPT4 and Human Translation of Scientific Texts".
The defense commission was chaired by Prof. Azad Mammadov, Doctor of Philological Sciences and Head of the Department of General Linguistics at Azerbaijan University of Languages. The commission members included Milana Abbasova, Head of the Department of English Language and Literature at Khazar University; Assoc. Prof. Irina Orujova, lecturer at Azerbaijan University of Languages; Prof. Huseynaga Rzayev, lecturer at Khazar University; and Dr. Imran Mahammad, lecturer at Prince Sultan University in Saudi Arabia.
Following the presentations and discussions, the dissertations were evaluated positively.
