On March 1, 2024, an event dedicated to "March 1 - World Civil Defense Day" was held at Khazar University, organised by the School of Science and Engineering, Department of Life Sciences. The university's faculty members and students attended the event. Khazar University employee, reservist Lieutenant-Colonel Mais Talishkhanov opened the event and provided students with a general overview of the significance and objectives of civil defense, as well as guidance on how individuals should respond in emergency situations. Then the floor was given to Gunay Rzayeva and Laman Shamiyeva, students of the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences of the university.
Sama Ahmadli, a student of the School of Science and Engineering, presented information about the history of the establishment of the International Civil Defense Organization and the way of its development, the role of Azerbaijan in this organization.
Each year, the "March 1 - World Civil Defense Day" event focuses on a specific theme. This year, the spotlight was on "Innovative Technologies in Civil Defense." Student Manzura Gurbanli delivered a presentation to the attendees, sharing the information she had prepared on this topic. Following her presentation, students Sevda Jalilova and Gunay Khalilova showcased practical measures by providing detailed guidance on administering medical aid and conducting evacuations for victims in emergency response centers and disaster areas.
In the practical part of the event, the rules of artificial respiration and closed heart massage during emergency rescue, first aid to people were demonstrated by student Emil Gurbanbeyov, the rules of first aid bag use, first aid rules for bleeding were demonstrated by students Nazrin Nagiyeva and Ravan Sayilov, and the rules of First Aid for fractures were demonstrated by students Maleyka Yahyayeva and Nurana Verdiyeva. Aydan Shamiyeva and Vusala Ismayilova, students of the School of humanities, education and Social Sciences, explained the rules for providing first aid to those injured during burns.
Zeynab Mammadhanifazade and Shahnaz Sheydayeva provided an in-depth explanation of the different types of chemicals and their combinations used in contemporary manufacturing and household applications. They also outlined the first aid protocols to follow in the event of injuries and poisoning caused by these substances.
Student Adila Abbasova, who resumed the event by emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety regulations to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, provided a comprehensive overview of the sources of carbon monoxide and demonstrated the proper procedures for administering first aid in cases of poisoning. Following this, the participants were treated to a video produced by the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Subsequently, students Laman Hasanli and Oruj Karimov presented practical information on intelligence, which plays a vital role in civil defense, including its specialized forms such as radiation and chemical intelligence, along with the devices and methodologies employed in this field.
Jamala Eldarova, a member of the University's Civil Defense headquarters and head of the Department of Life Sciences, addressed the students regarding the crucial significance of safeguarding people's safety, particularly in the natural and man-made emergency situations. She emphasized the importance of the subject "Civil Defense and Basics of Medical Knowledge" taught at the University and responded to inquiries from the audience.
Additionally, Parvana Bakhshaliyeva, a faculty member from the Department of Life Sciences, and Shabnam Rustamli, a faculty member from the Department of Computer Sciences, delivered speeches during the event. Finally, they presented certificates to the participating students.
