On February 9, 2024, an order was issued on the establishment of the scientific research center " Center for Mathematics and its Applications " at Khazar University. This center will operate as an independent structural unit of Khazar University, independent of the Department of Mathematics. Professor Vugar Ismayilov has been appointed as the director of the center, while Professor Anar Ahmadov will serve as the co-director, and Ali Huseynli, the head of Khazar University's Mathematics Department, has been appointed as a coordinator.
Vugar Ismayilov, a renowned mathematician from Azerbaijan, has previously worked at the Israel Institute of Technology and is frequently invited as a speaker at Oxford University. His monograph was recently published by the American Mathematical Society (AMS), a unique achievement among mathematicians in Muslim countries, as well as in Georgia and Armenia
Anar Ahmadov pursued his bachelor's degree at California State University and completed his doctoral studies at the University of California, Irvine. Currently, he holds a full professorship at the University of Minnesota. He is globally recognized for his expertise in the field of Algebraic
Topology, and for his scientific achievements, he has been awarded some of the most prestigious scholarships in the field of mathematics, including the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers, the American Mathematical Society Fellowship for 2020, in recognition of his contributions to core problems in topology, and the Simons Collaboration Grant for Mathematicians 2018-2022. Additionally, he has served as an invited professor at Harvard University and other renowned institutions.
The initial team of the center consists of 12 people, 6 of whom are mathematicians living abroad.
