On February 7, 2024, students from the 6th, 7th, and 8th IB classes of Sumgayit "Dunya" School, accompanied by their class leaders and biology teachers, paid a visit to Khazar University. The university's Rector, Assoc. Prof. Irada Khalilova, warmly welcomed the students, providing them with an overview of the university and emphasizing the significance of higher education.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to meet with faculty members from the Department of Life Sciences and tour the Cell Pathology Research Center. At the research center, the students received information on safety protocols, laboratory equipment, and ongoing research activities.
Elvin Alizadeh, a first-year student actively involved in Dr. Elshan Abdullayev's scientific research project at the Petroleum Engineering Department, shared insights with the students regarding the investigation into potential life on Mars. Alizadeh also visually demonstrated the functioning of the Ph meter device, illustrating its principle of operation to the visiting students.
Dr. Jamala Eldarova, Head of the Department of Life Sciences, and Associate Professor Javid Ojagi shared interesting insights into wheat, one of the most vital food plants, along with molecular biological research conducted on it. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Gulbeniz Gasimova, a faculty member of the department, demonstrated a light microscope to the students. She showcased a preparation derived from a turtle's pelvis and accurately determined the age of a land turtle by examining the rings on its scales. Moreover, erythrocytes in a blood sample were observed through the microscope. These experiments captivated the students, eliciting numerous questions that were thoughtfully addressed by the teachers.
