On June 1-2, 2023, the 3rd International Conference on “One Health: Problems and Solutions” was held at Khazar University.
The conference was organized by Khazar University as a member of the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA) consortium, as well as co-organized by Azerbaijan Medical University, Azerbaijan National Research Institute of Medical Prevention named after Vali Akhundov, the Food Safety Agency of The Republic of Azerbaijan, the Department of Molecular Sciences at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) together with SLU Swedish Centre for Animal Welfare of SLU who works together with Khazar University in a joint project (HanimSPAC) on animal welfare and sustainability, the faculty of Livestock Raising and Water Bioresources from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, and Poltava State Agrarian University of Ukraine.
The conference began with a minute of silence in memory of children who became victims of wars, natural disasters and hunger on our planet.
Then the founder of the university, the chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isakhanli and associate professor Irada Khalilova, chair of the conference opened the conference with a welcome speech. Afterwards, the participants were presented with a welcome video sent by the PHA for the conference.
The Climate changes, Health and Food Safety session of the conference was moderated by the chair of the conference, associate professor Irada Khalilova and Dr. David Dyjack. The key speakers Dr. David Dyjack, Chief Executive Officer National Environmental Health Association of the USA, Dr. Rovshan Abbasov, head of the Department of Geography and Environment at Khazar University, associate professor Galia Zamaratskaia from Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), as well as other speakers from Ukraine, Tajikistan, Türkiye, China and Azerbaijan delivered speeches at the session. At the end of the session, two workshop presentations were given by the staff of Shenzhen University and Springer Nature.
On the second day of the conference, Public Health, Disease Control and Prevention Strategies session was held under the moderatorship of Texas at Tyler University professor Ali Azghani and conference chair Irada Khalilova. Professor Lu Xiaolin, Deputy Director General of the Pan-SHU Sci-Tech Park of Shanghai University of China, professor Xingzhi (Xavier) Xu, Executive Dean of Medical School of Shenzhen University, China and his deputy, professor Xinchun Chen from China, professor Jiang Lijing, deputy director of the Department of Intensive Care at Minhang hospital affiliated to Fudan University of China, and professor Ali Azghani from Texas at Taylor University from the USA delivered speeches as keynote speakers. Then the speeches of researchers from Türkiye, Kazakhstan, the United States of America and Azerbaijan were heard.
More than 80 researchers from the countries listed above participated in the conference as listeners. A total of 34 presentations took place during the two-day conference, and up to 50 report summaries were presented.
Students from the Architecture and Design department actively participated at the conference and presented their posters on Climate Change and Ecosystem Health to promote nature protection.
At the end of the conference, Professor Xingzhi (Xavier) Xu, dean of the School of Medicine of Shenzhen University of China, gave a presentation about their university and announced 4 undergraduate students of Khazar University who were selected and admitted to the doctoral program in biology with a full scholarship to the School of Medicine of Shenzhen University, and an award ceremony took place. At the end, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the School of Medicine of Shenzhen University of China and Khazar University on various fields of cooperation.
