On April, 27, 2023, a seminar on “Organization of Archaeological Heritage Protection” was organized within the framework of the PICASP project at Khazar University by MIRAS Public Union for the Study of Cultural Heritage and co-organized by the School of Economics and Management and the Development Center with the participation of undergraduate tourism students and faculty.
The seminar was opened by Dr. Jeyhun Mammadov, dean of the School of Economics and Management of Khazar University, who gave detailed information about the PICASP project, cooperation with MIRAS, and the role of tourism in sustainable development.
Then, as the national partner of the Project, the administrative head of MIRAS Public Union, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Fariz Khalilli, delivered a speech.
The seminar covered archaeological research, protection and storage of movable and immovable archaeological finds, archaeological exhibitions organized in the country and abroad, archaeological museumization, surveying, conservation issues, international experience and other topics.
The seminar also discussed various aspects of the protection of the archaeological heritage on the example of the "Medieval Aghsu City" archaeological tourism complex, and informed about the educational projects (tours for getting acquainted, archeology camps, summer archeology school for schoolchildren et c.) implemented by MIRAS in the direction of the protection of the archaeological heritage. The seminar was organized in a hybrid format.
The aim of the HERITAGE-PICASP seminars is to prepare the ground for university-institution cooperation in the field of cultural heritage, archeology, museums, and tourism in the Caspian region. The main goal of the project is to increase the competencies of teachers in the field of small and medium business based on pilot courses that combine theory and practice with the application of a new learning tool, free open online courses (MOOCs), to introduce new methodologies and teaching tools, to raise the level of personnel training in the field of cultural heritage protection, especially consists of strengthening the potential in the field of higher education.
