On January 24, 2023, a great day took place in the student campus of Kirshehir Ahi Evran University. Here, a memorial plaque was opened in honor of 34 martyrs from Kirshehir in the victorious Caucasian Islamic Army, who liberated Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, from occupation 105 years ago.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports and public representatives participated in the opening. In honor of 34 martyrs from Kirshehir, within the framework of the "Türkiye-Azerbaijan Youth
Exchange" program, a marble memorial plaque and plaques with the names of the martyrs were placed.
Numan Nafiz Şahin, head of Kirshehir Provincial Directorate of Youth Services and Sports opened the event, greeting the delegation from Azerbaijan and all the guests who participated in the opening, said that the memorial plaque built in honor of the martyred soldiers of the victorious Caucasian Islamic Army is an eternal symbol of Türkiye and Azerbaijan friendship. In his speech, N. Shahin noted that a month ago, when he was in Baku as a guest of Khazar University, we saw the names of 34 people from Kirshehir among the hundreds of martyrs who slept eternally in the Baku Turkish Martyrs' Memorial, which was created in Highland Park in honor of the Caucasian Islamic Army. After that, we decided to create a memorial board in honor of 34 people from Kirshehir here.
Today is the opening of that memorial plaque, and we are proud to open this memorial plaque together with members of the Khazar University delegation from Baku within the framework of the "Türkiye-Azerbaijan Youth Exchange" program.
Khazar University students planted a tree in the name of each martyr and attached a plaque with the name of the martyr. At the opening of the memorial plaque, the first tree was planted by Gazi Ziya Alizadeh, a veteran of the Second Karabakh War and a student of Khazar University's School of Economics and Management.
The recitation of the Holy Quran was read for the souls of the martyrs.
Head of Khazar University delegation A. Amirbeyli mentioned in his speech that it is a great honor for us to commemorate the 34 martyrs from Kirshehir of the victorious Caucasian Islamic Army, which liberated Baku from occupation 105 years ago, in their hometown. 105 years ago, they liberated Baku from occupation, and today the children of the country they freed as martyrs commemorate their souls in Kirshehir.
