On December 24, 2022, English Language and Literature Department successfully conducted contest on "Power of Drama". In the contest, the staged versions of the novels "The picture of Dorian Gray" was performed by the students of School of Economics and Management and "Dracula" by the students of the School of Science and Engineering. The novels were adapted to the stage by the instructor of English Language and Literature Department, Leyla Jumayeva. Furthermore, the students of School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences performed the staged versions of "Cinderella" mentored by the instructor of English Language and Literature Department Oluwasei Sodiya and novel "The Alchemist" under the supervision of the Department instructor Rana Ozen.
The students' brilliant performances in all staged adaptations of the literary works received hearty applause from the audience. After the students' performances, a jury consisting of the staff members at English Language and Literature Department, including Milana Abbasova the acting head of the department and lecturers Huseynagha Rzayev, Kamala Askerova, Firangiz Nasirova, Naila Gasimova, Ilham Taghiyev, and international jury member from Malaysia, Hamza Hassan, voted for 4 staged plays to determine the winner. As a result of voting, "The picture of Dorian Gray" and the students of School of Economics and Management were announced as the winner. In addition, the winners in different categories were also determined in voting process:
Award for excellence in acting– Shayesta Malekan (School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences); Award for character development– Minaya Hajizadeh (School of Economics and Management); Award for excellence in voice quality – Ravan (Alizadeh School of Science and Engineering); Award for excellence in movement quality– Afag Mustafazadeh (School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences); Award for excellence in interpretation – Havva Shahbazova (School of Economics and Management); Award for excellence in articulation– Huseyn Dadashov (School of Economics and Management); Award for excellence in character relationship – Fatima Aliyeva (School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences); Award for excellence in audience awareness – Ayat Bashirzade (School of Economics and Management); Award for best narrator – Nurcan Qazizadeh (School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences).
