On June 13, 2022, Ayshan Veli's article on sia.az website extensively investigated the pollution of environment by people during outdoor recreation in the spring and summer months, and studied the views of ecologists, journalists and others.
Rovshan Abbasov, Head of the Department of Geography and the Environment at Khazar University and a member of the Public Council at AZERSU OJSC, also responded to the inquiry:
"Leaving the area in the garbage after a picnic is an indication of bad manners. People come here to have a rest. Collection and management of solid waste in the regions and rural areas of Azerbaijan remains a serious problem. No matter what tourist destination or picnic area you go to, you will always see garbage.
For example, when you go down to the river above the YukhariBash neighborhood of Sheki, one of the tourist destinations, you see garbage. This is a very embarrassing situation.
I recently went to Zira with students. There are a lot of plastic bags by the sea in Zira. Abreshon National Park has a lot of waste by sea. Although it is cleaned every time, it still does not end. This must be decided at the district level. There is no collection or processing of solid waste in any village. All drinks sold in plastic containers damage nature. These issues need to be addressed. The sale of plastic bags should either be banned or sold for money.
