On December 17, 2016, an event entitled “Science” was held at Khazar University as part of the “Build Your Future” Youth Support Project, which is implemented with the financial support and within the corporate social responsibility policies of BP, Iteca Caspian, Caspian Event Organizers, Kainat Educational Center, and EY, and BP. Participants included eleventh-grade students from various schools of Baku and Salyan. The students were introduced to Khazar University during the event and also learned valuable information.
Opening the event, Turan Jafarova, Director of the International Affairs Office at Khazar University, greeted the participants and gave general information about the project. Then Bahruz Hidayetzadeh, project director, spoke about the importance of science, justice, love, responsibility and other values of the project. Dr. Isakhan Isakhanli, Vice President for Administration and Student Affairs, made a presentation about Khazar University. Then Rashad Ibadov, Khazar alumnus and instructor at ADA University, gave the students a motivational speech.
After a tea break, a film was shown about Eurasian Academy, co-founded by Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees. Then Prof. Isaxanli made a speech about the importance of science. Several Khazar University students who graduated from the Build Your Future program spoke. Martha Lawry, American alumna of Khazar University, called on the students to learn languages. Gunel Farajova, employee of EY, spoke about science and society. Then the students were divided into small groups for a practical exercise.
We note that the main objective of the Build Your Future project is to grow the pool of highly intelligent and ethical citizens in the Azerbaijani society by supporting talented students from low-income families in building successful future lives.
