On September 15, 2016, an opening ceremony was held to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year at Khazar University. Participants in the ceremony included incoming freshmen and their parents, the university administration, and faculty members.

The ceremony began with the National Anthem of the Azerbaijan Republic. Then speeches were made by Dr. Hasan Niknafs, President of the University, and Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees. They congratulated students on their admission to the university and gave them information about Khazar. They also noted that the university will provide them every opportunity to study on a high level and to study abroad in Europe, the USA or Asia via the university’s international partnerships and programs. The university aims not only to train highly-qualified specialists, but also to raise up cultured graduates with broad worldviews by exposing them to various arts including music, design, carpet making and jewelry. They encouraged the new students to work hard and wished them success.

Then the 15 freshmen with the top admission examination scores were given their student ID cards and university gifts by H.Isaxanli; H.Niknafs; Vice Presidents Mahammad Nuriyev and Isakhan Isakhanli; Dr. Ingilab Ahmadov, Dean of the School of Economics and Management; Associate Professor Jabir Khalilov, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; and Dr. Elza Semedli, Dean of the School of Education.

Freshman Murad Nuriyev (majoring in Finance) made a speech on behalf of the freshman class, noting that they would work hard to take advantage of the opportunities at Khazar.

The Department of Music and Fine Arts gave a concert including performances by the Girls’ and Boys’ Dance Ensembles and by instructor Mehseti Jabbarli, soloist for the Muslum Magomayev Azerbaijan State Philharmonic.

At the end of the ceremony, the new students were invited to their classrooms, where they met with their deans and department heads. They were given detailed information about their majors and their questions were answered. The new academic year at Khazar University has officially begun
