On April 22, 2016, a conference entitled “Shakespeare in the World” jointly organized by Khazar University and British Council was held at the university in honor of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.
Prof. Hamlet Isaxanli, Founder of the University and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, opened the event and welcomed the guests.
Then the floor was given to H.E. Irfan Siddiq, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Great Britain to Azerbaijan. He thanked Khazar University for hosting the event.
Ms Elizabeth White, Director of British Council in Azerbaijan, also shared her thoughts about the event.
Then researchers gave lectures about Shakespeare, including Professor Sarah Knight of Leicester University (UK), Natalia Tvalchrelidze of Ilia State University (Georgia), and Alla Bayramova, Sabir Mustafa, and Gilinjkhan Bayramov from Azerbaijani universities.
In addition to the academic lectures, the conference also included brief film and drama performances prepared by Dunya School pupils and Khazar University students.
