The 27th International Psychology Conference titled "Attention–Addiction–Family: Focus, Connect and Strengthen" was organized by the Turkish Psychological Counseling Association in Konya, Türkiye, from June 10 to 12, 2026. Melek Karimova, Coordinator of the Department of Psychology at Khazar University, Head of the Khazar Psychological Service Center, and psychologist, presented a paper titled "The Dark Triad (Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy) and Indicators of Psychological Well-Being: A Systematic Review."
Conducted in accordance with the PRISMA protocol, the study systematically examined the relationship between "dark triad" personality traits and indicators of psychological well-being, life satisfaction, depression, anxiety, and stress, covering the period from 2014 to 2026. Within the framework of the research, empirical studies conducted on adolescents, university students, and adults were analyzed, and associations with variables such as life satisfaction, subjective well-being, depression, anxiety, and stress were assessed. According to the findings, psychopathy was identified as the trait most strongly associated with psychological difficulties. Machiavellianism was found to exert a negative effect on well-being through weakened social support and dysfunctional coping strategies, while narcissism was found to be associated with both positive and negative outcomes depending on its form. The study also emphasized that emotion regulation processes play a significant role in these associations.
The paper noted the importance of conducting longitudinal and cross-cultural studies for future research.
