A scientific-ecological excursion was organized on May 23, 2026, with the participation of the faculty of the Life Sciences Department of Khazar University and fourth-year students majoring in Biology Teaching. The event covered the areas of Hirkan National Park and Lake Khanbulan. The main objectives of the excursion were to strengthen students' knowledge and skills in biodiversity in connection with May 22 International Biodiversity Day, to develop scientific observation skills, and to study the region's rich ecosystems in the field.
During the visit, participants familiarized themselves with endemic and relict species characteristic of the Hirkan region and conducted field observations on the structure of forest ecosystems and the interrelationships of flora and fauna complexes. They also acquainted themselves with alder, oak, hornbeam, and other valuable tree and shrub species found in the area. This vegetation once again demonstrates the ancient relict character and high ecological value of the Hirkan forests.
During fauna observations, the Common Brown Frog and its larvae, belonging to the class Amphibia, were recorded. The presence of these species reflects the biological productivity and ecological balance of the wetland ecosystems of the area.
The event is considered significant in terms of fostering students' ecological thinking, raising their sense of responsibility toward nature conservation, and studying the region's natural resources on a scientific basis.
