First-year students of the School of Science and Engineering at Khazar visited the Gobustan State Historical and Artistic Reserve on May 3, 2026, under the guidance of Dr. Yagub Mammadov and Samira Hadiyeva, lecturers from the Department of History and Archaeology.
During the excursion, students received detailed information about the history of archaeological research in Gobustan, the findings of studies conducted there, and the rich archaeological materials preserved in the museum. The lecturers also introduced students to the reserve's unique monuments and discussed their scientific and cultural significance.
Students examined hundreds of pictographic images carved on rocks and engaged in discussions regarding the techniques used to create these depictions, their symbolic content, and their place among analogous examples worldwide. These discussions provided a foundation for students to reinforce their theoretical knowledge through practical observation, as well as to develop a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving and studying archaeological heritage.
Excursions of this kind to museums and reserves play a significant role in shaping students' scientific outlook. They gain the opportunity to apply knowledge acquired in theoretical classes to real historical monuments, while also deepening their connection to national and cultural heritage. At Khazar University, this tradition is maintained in a systematic manner and is regarded as an integral part of students' academic preparation.
