A staff member of Khazar University's Psychology Department and psychologist at the Khazar Psychological Service Centre, Mirsadiq Mukhtarov, gave an interview to the news website "Tehsil365" on March 6, 2026. The psychologist shared his views on the impact of childhood traumas on a person's future relationships, self-confidence, and psychological well-being.
The psychologist noted that childhood traumas are not limited to physical violence; factors like emotional neglect, intra-family tension, loss of a parent, and lack of affection also have a serious impact on a child's perception of the world and their attitude to themselves and others.
Mirsadiq Mukhtarov emphasised that such individuals may exhibit low self-esteem, difficulty trusting others, and social adaptation problems. People who did not receive sufficient love and support in childhood tend to be overly cautious in relationships during adulthood or constantly seek validation and attention.
The psychologist also stated that childhood traumas do not necessarily determine a person's future. Resilience, timely psychological support, a healthy social environment, and understanding relationships can help mitigate the effects of trauma. Through psychotherapy methods applied in modern psychology, individuals can overcome their difficulties and improve their quality of life. The interview further highlighted that understanding children's emotional needs, listening to them, and creating a safe environment play a vital role in shaping psychologically healthy individuals.
