Roza Arazova, an educator and historian who began working as a history instructor at Khazar University from the year of its establishment, passed away on December 30, 2025.
Roza Binnet gizi Arazova was born on April 15, 1947, in the village of Ashagi Korpulu, Novemberyan district, Armenia. She completed secondary school in the city of Krasnoarmeysk, Ukraine, from 1954 to 1965, and graduated from the Faculty of History at Azerbaijan State University (present-day Baku State University) from 1965 to 1970.
From 1967 to 1970, she worked as a laboratory assistant in the Ancient Archaeology Department at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan USSR. From 1970 to 1973, she was a postgraduate student at the institute, and in 1974 defended her candidate dissertation on the topic "Ancient Agricultural-Pastoral Culture in the Territory of Azerbaijan in the 6th-4th Millennia BC (Based on Stone Labor Tools)."
While working as a research fellow in the Archaeology and Ethnography Division of the Institute of History from 1974 to 1980, she focused on the problem of early agricultural culture in Azerbaijan. She participated in archaeological expeditions conducted in Gabala, Azikh, Fuzuli, Mil-Mugan, Guba-Khachmaz, Russia, Moldova, the Baltic countries, and Central Asia.
From 1980 to 1995, she worked as senior instructor and associate professor at Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University.
From 1991 until the end of her life, she worked at Khazar University as a history instructor, head of the Department of History and Archaeology, and deputy editor-in-chief of the journal "Azerbaijan Archaeology."
Arazova is the author of more than 60 scholarly articles, 2 monographs, and 1 textbook.
The cherished memory of Roza Arazova, a sincere and humble person and caring instructor, will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.
