First-year students of the History-Geography Teaching program at Khazar University's School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences conducted an educational visit on December 17, 2025, to the Museum-Exhibition Hall of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, as well as to the Shirvanshahs Palace Complex in the Icharishahar, within the "Fundamentals of Archaeology and Ethnography" course.
At the Museum-Exhibition Hall, the course instructor, Orkhan Zamanov, Director of the "Organization of Scientific Exposition" Department at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, provided students with detailed information about archaeological materials and material culture specimens from the Early Iron Age, Classical period, and Middle Ages. Among the exhibits representing the Early Iron Age, iron weapons, household tools, and other metal objects were displayed.
The exhibition dedicated to the Middle Ages highlighted the richness of material, cultural heritage related to Islamic culture and archaeology on Azerbaijan, and scientific research was discussed.
As a continuation of the educational program, students also took an excursion to the Shirvanshahs Palace Complex. A special guide assigned for the students provided extensive information about the architectural features of the palace ensemble, the complex's defense system, and the city during the Shirvanshahs period. The architectural elements of the palace ensemble dating to the late Middle Ages, their functions, and historical significance were explained to students visually.
The visit was of great importance in terms of on-site study of the main stages of Azerbaijan's material and cultural heritage.
