The "4th International Onomastics Knowledge Festival," one of the prestigious international events in the field of linguistics and onomastics, was held in Ankara on December 16-17, 2025, organized by the Turkish Language Association (TDK). The event, organized at the Bilkent campus of the Atatürk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History, was attended by scholars and experts from various countries. The opening ceremony took place in conjunction with the presentation of the "2025 Turkish Language Service Awards" and was attended by high-level officials, academics and diplomatic representatives.
The main objective of the festival was to strengthen international cooperation in the field of onomastics, discuss various aspects of the naming process, and develop common scientific approaches. Special attention was paid to the naming traditions of Turkic languages and general onomastic culture during the event.
Khazar was represented at this scientific gathering by staff members from the Department of Languages and Literature – Assoc.Prof. Ziver Huseynli Baylan and Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Almaz Badalova. Ziver Huseynli Baylan conducted a historical-linguistic analysis of verbal anthroponyms of Turkic origin based on Safavid period sources. Almaz Badalova, on the other hand, substantiated the Turkic origin of Iravan Khanate toponyms with historical and linguistic facts, emphasizing their place in the common memory of the Turkic world.
The presentations by Khazar University staff members were received with interest and sparked active scientific discussions. These presentations were evaluated as an important contribution to the international recognition of Azerbaijani onomastics.
At the end of the event, certificates were presented to participants. At the same time, representatives of Khazar University met with TDK President Prof. Dr. Osman Mert to discuss future scientific cooperation opportunities. It was also announced that scientific resources published by TDK will be donated to Khazar University's library, an initiative that will serve to strengthen the university's research potential.
