Khazar University's Department of English Language and Literature organized a seminar on 2 December 2025, delivered by Professor Hu Kaibao, Assistant President of the Institute of Language Sciences at Shanghai International Studies University (People's Republic of China), and Associate Professor Muhammad Afzaal.
Dr. Milana Abbasova welcomed the guests and opened the session. She then invited Prof. Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, to deliver his remarks. In his speech, Hamlet Isakhanli highlighted the growing importance of connecting linguistic research with rapidly evolving language technologies.
The first speaker, Professor Hu Kaibao, Assistant President of the Institute of Language Sciences, delivered a talk titled “Corpus-based Translation Studies in the Context of Large Language Models.” He discussed how large language models are reshaping modern translation studies and explained the expanding role of corpus-based methods in understanding translation patterns and improving AI-powered translation tools.
Next, Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Afzaal presented his research on “Introducing NLP-Driven Corpus-based Approaches to Complexity in Human and Machine Corpora.” His talk focused on how natural language processing techniques can be used to analyze linguistic complexity, offering comparisons between human-written texts and machine-generated language.
The seminar provided valuable insights for both students and faculty members.
