An article titled "Analysis of Psychosocial Factors in First-Year Students' Adaptation Process to University Life" prepared by Khazar University Psychology Department Coordinator Malek Karimova and Clinical Psychology Master's student Nigar Huseynova has been published in the "Scientific Works" journal of the Education Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Volume 93, Issue 3, 2025).
The article emphasizes that for students taking their first steps into university life, this period is both exciting and accompanied by emotional and social difficulties. While some students adapt easily to the new environment, others experience difficulties such as emotional tension, psychosomatic symptoms, and social isolation.
Research results show that students who experience difficulties in the adaptation process sometimes withdraw from higher education and leave their studies incomplete. This can lead to the formation of negative perceptions about university, weakening of family relationships, and facing career failures in the future.
The research comprehensively analyzed the impact of psychosocial factors such as gender, social support, financial situation, motivation, homesickness, and individual characteristics on students' adaptation process within a theoretical framework. The purpose of the article was not only to identify problems but also to establish scientific foundations for preventive approaches aimed at preventing them.
