An article titled "Human figurines in the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition of the South Caucasus: New evidence from the Damjili cave, Azerbaijan," co-authored by Khazar University History and Archaeology Department faculty members Ulviyya Safarova and Dr. Yaqub Mammadov, has been published in Volume 42 (2025) of the prestigious Q1-category journal "Archaeological Research in Asia," which is indexed in both Web of Science (WOS) and SCOPUS databases.
The scholarly publication focuses on a rare sandstone figurine discovered during excavations at the Damjili cave. Notably, no comparable human figurines have been unearthed from known Mesolithic sites in the Kura River valley and its vicinity. This exceptional specimen holds tremendous significance for investigating the complex transition between the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods in the region.
