On October 29-30, 2024, the opening ceremony and first international seminar of the newly established Engineering Biomaterials Research Center (EBRC) were organized at Khazar University. The program consisted of 2 main parts - an artistic musical performance and scientific presentations covering modern approaches to the application of biomaterials in life sciences. The seminar was attended by academic staff and students of Khazar University, along with leaders from other universities, scientists from research institutes, representatives of private companies, industry specialists, and business people.
The artistic program was organized under the direction of Zulfiyya Sadigova, Head of the Music and Arts Department at Khazar University, honored teacher, and pianist. The event opened with a performance by the university's Chamber Orchestra and continued under the conductorship of Presidential Award winner Orkhan Hashimov. The program featured prominent works from Azerbaijani and world music. Particularly well-received were excerpts from Uzeyir Hajibeyli's opera "Leyli and Majnun," dances from Gara Garayev's ballet "Seven Beauties," and Asaf Zeynalli's "My Country."
The scientific portion began with an opening speech by Prof. Acad. Hamlet Isakhanli, founder of Khazar University and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees. He emphasized the importance of establishing the research center and the significance of its activities for society and industry. Then, the center's director Prof. Soodabeh Davaran greeted center members and participants, providing detailed information about the new center's vision, objectives, and directions. Center members from Iran, Türkiye, Switzerland, Cyprus, and Azerbaijan also participated in the seminar, presenting reports on various topics related to biomaterials and engaging in extensive discussions.
The main purpose of the seminar was to expand university-industry collaboration in the field of biomaterials, present innovative approaches to the public, and open new perspectives in this field. The seminar extensively demonstrated both the scientific and practical potential of biomaterials to both educational and industry representatives.
At the conclusion, center members were presented with gifts on behalf of Khazar University.
