On November 14, 2024, during COP29 The Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS) supported by Khazar University China Studies Center, hosted the "China-EU Climate and Sustainable Development Cooperation Dialogue." Co-organized with the French Bridge Think Tank, the event gathered leading figures, including Eric Solheim, former UN Under-Secretary-General, and Chao Qingchen.
The dialogue featured the launch of the report "China-France Climate and Sustainable Development Cooperation: Problems, Opportunities, and Prospects," presented by Fan Daqi, Vice President of the Institute of Contemporary China and the World, and Zhou Rui, Chairman of the French Bridge Think Tank. Other notable speakers included Zhang Jian, Vice President of Tsinghua University’s Institute of Climate Change; Stéphane Buffari, President of France Energy 2050; Teng Fei, Deputy Director of Tsinghua University’s Institute of Energy, Environment, and Economy; and Edward Lancrete, Director of Agricultural Solutions at the French InVivo Group.
Irada Khalilova, rector of Khazar University, shared her insights from visits to China, praising the nation’s significant progress in science, technology, and its focus on sustainable development. She highlighted Khazar University’s commitment to sustainability research and expressed hope for stronger international consensus at the conference to enhance global climate collaboration.
The event marked an important step in fostering multi-stakeholder dialogue under the COP29 framework, bringing together contributions from governments, academic institutions, enterprises, and civil society. Supported by the European Union Asia Center, Tsinghua University’s Institute of Climate Change, and Khazar University China Studies Center, the dialogue saw extensive participation from international experts, government officials, business leaders, and youth representatives from China, France, Azerbaijan, and various global organizations.
