With the support of the British Embassy in Azerbaijan and in partnership with the University of Reading, a conference titled "A Farewell to Fossil Fuels? Perspectives and Dialogues Pre-Cop29" was held in the Marble Hall on October 22, 2024.
The conference opened with speeches from Prof. Hamlet Isakhanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, Fergus Auld, British Ambassador to Azerbaijan, and Professor Yelena Kalyuzhnova from the University of Reading.
The conference also featured presentations and discussions by renowned international and local experts in the field of climate change and energy transition. In the second half of the day, an online discussion took place between the youth climate council from Reading, UK, and their Azerbaijani counterparts, resulting in the decision to establish a joint network. On behalf of the youth network, a letter was addressed to the COP29 Presidency regarding youth expectations from climate change and their potential contributions.
