Dr. Jamala Eldarova, the Head of the Life Sciences Department, along with Assoc. Prof. Javid Ojagi, visited Estonia to attend the upcoming meeting of the international research project “SORG4NOBAL: Introducing Climate-Resilient Sorghum to Mitigate Eutrophication and Pesticide Contamination in the Baltic Sea Region,” which was awarded in 2023 by the Swedish Institute of Agricultural Sciences.
A meeting focused on the implementation of project activities took place from September 9-12, 2024, in the cities of Tallinn and Tartu, Estonia. The meeting was attended by project participants Javid Ojagi, Jamala Eldarova, and Dr. Mahammad Eldarov, Deputy Director of the Laboratory, Expertise, and Certification Center at the Agricultural Services Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture. The event featured discussions on Azerbaijan's biodiversity, soil and climate conditions, the demand for sorghum crops, and strategies to expand cultivated areas. Experts and prominent scientists from Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine, Denmark, and the Netherlands were also in attendance, where they presented and evaluated current research results.
Later, a visit was made to the Estonian University of Life Sciences and Research Institute located in the city of Tartu, where sorghum crop fields were inspected, and an action plan was developed for drafting the next joint project. It was decided that the final meeting regarding the implementation of the project would be held at Khazar University in February 2025.
