On August 27, 2024, a hybrid conference on “Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan: New Prospects for Mutually Beneficial Cooperation” was held jointly organized by the Center for Analysis of International Relations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Delivering a welcoming speech, Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies Bakhtiyor Mustafayev noted that the current state of bilateral relations is satisfactory, and the development prospects are high. According to him, President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Uzbekistan marks the beginning of a new stage in the development of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
“In a short period of time, interstate relations have been raised to a high level, and economic ties are developing successfully,” Mustafayev stated.
Noting that the potential in the field of alternative energy is high, B. Mustafayev drew attention to the active work on the creation of the green energy corridor "Azerbaijan-Central Asia-Europe".
Chairman of the Center of Analysis of International Relations Dr. Farid Shafiev emphasized the regional and global significance of the documents signed during President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Uzbekistan, especially the agreement on allied relations.
"Over the past 30 years, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have developed very close relations, which are now at a high, strategic level," Shafiev noted.
Regarding the importance of developing bilateral industrial cooperation, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan Bakhrom Ashrafkhanov noted that Azerbaijan acts as a bridge to Europe for Uzbekistan, and Uzbekistan acts as a bridge to Asia for Azerbaijan.
Counselor of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Uzbekistan, Mahir Jafarov, noted that President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit represents a historic new stage in bilateral relations. He emphasized that cooperation in transport, logistics, and renewable energy will significantly contribute to the dynamics and development of these relations.
Following the speeches, panel discussions continued on the following topics: “Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership as an Important Factor in the Development of Cooperation between the Regions of Central Asia and the South Caucasus,” “State and Prospects for the Development of Trade and Economic Interaction between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan” (covering industrial cooperation, 'green' energy, and digitalization), and “The Development of Transport and Logistics Joint Activities of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in New Geopolitical Conditions.” Speeches from analytical centers and expert circles from both countries were also presented.
As a result of the conference, a decision was made to establish the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Expert Council.
