Ulviyya Fataliyeva, a chess player from Azerbaijan, emerged victorious in the individual European women's championship hosted in Rhodes, Greece. The twenty-seven-year-old grandmaster achieved this feat by collecting 8.5 points across 10 matches. In the final round, she secured a draw against Georgia's representative, Nino Batsiashvili.
Note that the European Chess Union has been organizing the individual European Championship among women since 2000. Ulviyya Fataliyeva went down in history as the first Azerbaijani chess player to win a gold medal in the individual continental championship among women.
