On February 24, 2024, the first hour of Azerbaijan history class across all disciplines at Khazar University is dedicated to commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. The faculty members from the Department of History and Archeology of the University, Doctor of History Prof. Habil Mammadov, Doctor of Philosophy in History Yagub Mammadov, Ramin Fatullayev, Ulviyya Safarova and PhD student Kamala Mustafayeva provided comprehensive insights to students regarding the Khojaly Genocide and ongoing efforts for its global recognition.
It's worth mentioning that during the tragic events perpetrated by Armenian military units on February 26, 1992, 613 individuals from Khojaly lost their lives, among them 63 children, 106 women, and 70 elderly individuals. Additionally, 8 families were entirely wiped out, 25 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one parent, and 1275 people were taken captive. The fate of 150 of these captives, including 68 women and 26 children, remains unknown.
The Azerbaijani people will forever remember the innocent victims and continue to advocate for justice. Presently, the Azerbaijani flag proudly waves in Khojaly, and the rightful inhabitants of the land will return to their ancestral homes at the earliest opportunity.
