On November 27, 2023, the first rugby test-match was held at the Shamakhi Olympic Center. Khazar University's rugby team emerged victorious in both games. The team was awarded a diploma by the organizing committee "for the exceptional technical and physical prowess".

Notably, Khazar University's rugby team holds the distinction of being the first among Azerbaijani universities.
