Scientific workshop on the Bronze Age kurgans held at Khazar University

On December 7, 2018, a scientific workshop on the Bronze Age kurgans in Azerbaijan held at Khazar University. In the workshop, archaeologist Parviz Gasimov, Head of Public Relations Department at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, ANAS, delivered a report on “The Bronze Age kurgan-type burial monuments”. 

P.Gasimov talked about semantics and etymology of "kurgan", a widespread term in former Soviet and Eastern European countries as well as earlier genesis of kurgans in the last Chalcolithic period in Northern Azerbaijan within the culture of Leylatepe, rational and irrational reasons for emergence of kurgans, and theories about the fact that kurgans were regarded as social status. The speaker also touched on he constructive features of kurgan-type monuments, specific regional characteristics of the first, middle and last Bronze Age.

The lecture was delivered through an electronic board. At the end, the speaker had welcoming questions.
