On May 2-12, 2018, Rima Mammadova, Coordinator of Center for Students with Disabilities of Khazar University, went on a business trip to the USA. The trip was organized within Open World Program for Disability Advocacy and Reform exchange program financed by USA Congress and managed by USA Embassy to Azerbaijan. The trip consisted of two parts. The first part of the trip was on May 2-3, 2018, in Washington city. John O’Keefe, former ambassador and CEO of the Board of Trustees of Open World, greeted the delegations from Azerbaijan and Kosovo and informed them about Open World Leadership Center. Then James M.Quirk, an instructor of American University, delivered a lecture on American Federalism and American political system. Later Dr Sam Potolicchio, an instructor of Georgetown University, delivered a lecture on “Training world leaders”. The first part ended with a walk in Washington city.
The second part of the trip was on May 4-10 in Reno city, Nevada state. This part was organized by International Center of Northern Nevada. In this part, Azerbaijani delegation got acquainted with conditions provided for people with disabilities in Reno and Carson cities. The delegation also got information on governmental and non-governmental organizations which protect the rights of people with disabilities and ensure their welfare. Moreover, during the trip, the delegation visited Nevada Disability Advocacy and Law Center, Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities, Disability Resource Center affiliated with Nevada University and other organizations. The delegation also delivered information on protection of rights of people with disabilities in Azerbaijan. Rima Mammadova informed her counterparts about Center for Students with Disabilities established at Khazar University and called them for collaboration.
The delegations as well as Mark Amodei, a member of the US Congress, met associates of the centre in Reno city. In the meeting, Rima Mammadova was awarded a certificate of US Congress. The delegation also went on a trip to Lake Tahoe.
