On October 7, 2017, the World Robotics Olympiad selection competition was held, for the first time, at Baku Olympic Sports Complex with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan and organization by the "Youth Education, Training, Vocational and Development Center" Public Union and the AREA (Azerbaijan Robotics Engineering Academy).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Intigam Babayev, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport, noted that the competitions provide young people with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills and to share experience with their peers. He also stated that conducting such Olympiads will make a great contribution to the youth's scientific development.
Kohe Ishigami, Chief Judge, Japanese expert, co-founder of AREA, noted in his speech that successful work had been carried out for the development of this sphere in Azerbaijan. The chief judge said that educating young people in this field is important for the development of Azerbaijan and their future. He underlined a great interest of the Azerbaijani youth in this field, and mentioned that all conditions for the development of robotics in our country had been created.
Rahman Rasulzade, technical director of the Azerbaijan Organizing Committee of the World Robotics Olimpiad, provided organizational support for the competitions.
Teams competed in three directions: "Robot Football", "Open Category" and "Main Category". The competition was attended by the representatives of Khazar University, Baku Higher Oil School, Baku Engineering University, ADA University, High School named after Academician Zarifa Aliyeva, “Kaspi” High School, Baku Modern Education Complex, British School in Baku, Secondary school No 215, “Istek” High School and Lyceum No 267.
Khazar University was represented by the 2nd year students from the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The teams of "Khazar", who were competing in the "Main category" with 3 teams, were honored with First (Vusal Ismayilov, Mahammad Mammadli, Ahmad Arabov), Second (Emin Bayramov, Aykhan Alifov, Asaf Nofruzlu) and Third (Ilgar Huseynli, Taleh Mammadov) places.
The winning teams were awarded with diplomas and valuable prizes.
