On July 14, 2017, the QS Top 50 Under 50 2018 annual university ranking was released. QS ranked universities which have been established less than 50 years ago.
The primary objective of this ranking is to assess the potential and strengths of universities which despite their young age possess the potential to compete effectively with older well-established higher education institutions.
The top 150 young universities from 53 countries have been included to the list.
Khazar University is the only Azerbaijani university that was placed among the 150 best young world universities. Khazar University was competing with such well-known universities as Middlesex University (UK), Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland), Universität Bielefeld (Germany), London Metropolitan University (UK), Nottingham Trent University (UK), and George Mason University (USA).
Post-Soviet Union countries are represented by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine with one university per country. Turkey has four universities (Bilkent University, Koc University, Sabancı University, Cukurova University) in the top 150 young world universities.
The performance of each university is evaluated across a range of the following indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, student-faculty ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
