On May 16, 2026, a conference-lecture dedicated to the history of Ancient Rome was held at the Nizami campus of Khazar University. The event was opened by Orkhan Zamanov, lecturer at the Department of History and Archaeology of Khazar University.
The conference-lecture featured presentations by Majid Majidzade, a research fellow at the Department of Early Medieval Archaeology of Azerbaijan at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, and Rukhsara Guliyeva, lecturer at the Department of History and Archaeology of Khazar University.
Rukhsara Guliyeva delivered a presentation on the topic "Magistracy during the Roman Republic Period," covering Roman state governance, the functions of magistrate bodies, and the defining characteristics of the republican era.
Majid Majidzade addressed the topics "The Founding of Carthage" and "The Carthage–Rome Wars," providing an overview of the process by which the Carthaginian state was established, its political and economic position in the Mediterranean basin, the political and military confrontation between Rome and Carthage, and the transformations these wars brought about in the history of the ancient world.
The conference-lecture was attended by second-year students enrolled in the History Teaching and History-Geography Teaching programmes at Khazar University. The event proceeded in an atmosphere of interactive discussion, with students demonstrating considerable interest in the subjects covered. In the course of the presentations, a range of questions were raised concerning the founding of the Carthaginian state, the causes and consequences of the Punic Wars, the functioning of the magistracy system in the Roman Republic, and the characteristics of Roman state governance. The presenters provided detailed responses to students' questions, and an extensive exchange of views on the topics took place. The event proved significant in terms of broadening students' knowledge of ancient world history and fostering their engagement with academic discourse.
