On April 13–14, 2026, an international scientific conference titled "Current Problems of Archaeological and Ethnographic Research in the Ganja–Gazakh Region" was held at the Heydar Aliyev Centre in Aghstafa. The conference was jointly organized by the ANAS Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, the Aghstafa District Executive Authority, the Keshdagh State Historical and Cultural Reserve, and the Avey State Historical and Cultural Reserve both operating under the State Service for the Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic. The event was dedicated to the 90th birth anniversary of distinguished scholar and Palaeolithic specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mansurov, as well as to the International Day for Monuments and Sites.
The conference, held with the participation of scholars from Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, featured more than 70 presentations. Dr. Yagub Mammadov, Leading Research Fellow at the ANAS Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology and lecturer at the Department of History and Archaeology at Khazar University, delivered presentations on "The Scientific Legacy of Mansur Mansurov in Shaping New Research Directions in Azerbaijani Palaeolithic Studies" and "On the Field Research Conducted by the Gazakh Palaeolithic Archaeological Expedition in the Territory of the Avey State Historical and Cultural Reserve in 2024." Additionally, Ulviyya Safarova, Research Fellow at the ANAS Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology and lecturer at the Department of History and Archaeology at Khazar University, presented a paper on "Some Aspects of the Study of Macrolithic Tools."
On April 14, conference participants visited the Aghaliqtepe settlement site dating to the Late Bronze–Early Iron Age, located in the village of Dagh Kesemen in the Aghstafa district, where they were familiarized with research being conducted by the Azerbaijani–German international archaeological expedition. It should be noted that Ulviyya Safarova is currently participating in the research as a member of that archaeological expedition.
