A staff member of Khazar University's Psychology Department, psychologist Mirsadig Mukhtarov, gave an interview to the news website "Tehsil365" on March 31, 2026. The psychologist shared his views on discussing historically tragic events with children, the psychological effects of this process, and its role in shaping a sense of justice.
The psychologist noted that teaching children about historically tragic events such as March 31 in a proper and age-appropriate manner has a significant impact on the development of their concept of justice. According to him, such topics help children grasp the notions of justice and injustice from an early age and lay the groundwork for them to adopt a sensitive stance against wrongdoing in the future.
Mirsadig Mukhtarov stated that teaching historical events also influences the development of empathy in children. As children learn about the hardships and losses of the past, they begin to better understand the feelings of others, which in turn strengthens their sense of compassion. The psychologist also emphasized that teaching such events has a positive effect on shaping children's sense of national identity and belonging. According to him, this process helps young people approach historical events more responsibly and embrace the concept of justice as a social value.
Mukhtarov added that the manner in which such sensitive topics are presented to children is of particular importance. He stated that it is essential to explain information in an age-appropriate, balanced, and humanistic way, rather than in a traumatic or frightening manner.
