Dr. Yagub Mammadov, leading researcher at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, member of the Azerbaijan-Japan and Azerbaijan-Denmark international archaeological expeditions, and instructor at the History and Archaeology Department of Khazar University, conducted a master class on November 17, 2025, at the History Faculty of Baku State University (BSU) on the topic "History of the Development of Paleolithic Studies in Azerbaijan: Achievements, Problems and Tasks Ahead."
The event, organized by the BSU History Faculty, was attended by Prof. Tarix Dostiyev, Head of the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography, instructor Gunay Bayramova, and first-year students majoring in History Teaching.
During the master class, the beginning of research on the Paleolithic period in the territory of Azerbaijan, formation stages, research methods in this field, and the main scientific results obtained were extensively discussed. The results of recent research by the Azerbaijan-Japan and Azerbaijan-Denmark archaeological expeditions at the country's important Stone Age monuments – Azykh, Taglar and Damjili cave sites – were presented to participants, and the role of these monuments in studying the ancient history of the Caucasus region was emphasized. At the end of the event, Dr. Yagub Mammadov answered questions from the students.
