The Research Center for International and Global Higher Education (RCIGHE) at Khazar University organized a webinar on October 30 titled “AI and ChatGPT in Scientific Research: A Guide for Academic Writers.” The event brought together faculty members, researchers, and postgraduate students from various institutions to discuss how artificial intelligence—particularly ChatGPT—can enhance the research and publication process.
The session focused on the practical integration of AI tools into academic work, including demonstrations on literature review, paraphrasing, and citation management. Participants also explored ethical guidelines for the responsible use of AI in scholarly contexts, ensuring that technology complements rather than compromises research integrity.
The workshop featured Assistant Professor Louie Giray from the Department of Liberal Arts, School of Foundational Studies and Education, Mapúa University (Philippines), who is also affiliated with Khazar University’s RCIGHE. In his presentation, Giray emphasized that “AI can empower researchers to be more productive, creative, and accurate, as long as ethical standards and transparency are maintained.”
Giray, a member of the National Research Council of the Philippines and the Artificial Intelligence in Education Network at Oxford University, has published widely on AI and education in international Scopus-indexed journals such as Internet Reference Services Quarterly, ECNU Review of Education, and Higher Learning Research Communications.
The webinar concluded with a lively Q&A session, where participants shared experiences and challenges in integrating AI tools into their own academic writing practices. The event underscored Khazar University’s ongoing commitment to promoting innovation, integrity, and international collaboration in higher education research.
