On May 28, 2025, the Research Center for International and Global Higher Education at Khazar University successfully conducted its inaugural webinar featuring Dr. Ahmet Su from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. The webinar, titled "Developing Effective Academic Integrity Policies for Higher Education Institutions," provided insightful discussions and practical guidelines crucial for addressing contemporary challenges in academic integrity.
The webinar was moderated by Engin Karadag, the Director of the Center, and attended by numerous participants, including Dean of the School of Economics and Management Raziya Isaeva. Dr. Su emphasized the necessity for proactive, supportive, and educational approaches rather than punitive measures. He highlighted six core values advocated by the International Center for Academic Integrity: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage. Addressing key challenges such as plagiarism, contract cheating, misuse of AI tools, and fraudulent certifications, the webinar underscored the importance of embedding integrity throughout institutional governance and daily academic activities.
Participants were introduced to best practices, including clear policy structures, accessibility, transparent misconduct handling procedures, and consistent messaging integrated into curricula. Dr. Su also presented international frameworks such as the Academic Integrity Maturity Model (AIMM) and referenced global standards outlined by Universities Australia.
The webinar concluded with an engaging discussion, reaffirming that academic integrity policies are not merely regulatory necessities but moral imperatives essential for maintaining educational quality and fostering an honest academic culture.
Khazar University remains committed to hosting similar future events, promoting excellence and integrity within the global academic community.
