On May 1, 2025, second-year students majoring in History and Geography Education at Khazar University’s School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences participated in another meeting devoted to the theme of ancient civilizations. The event was organized by Dr. Sohrab Mustafayev, coordinator of the Department of History and Archaeology, and archaeologist Orkhan Zamanov, a lecturer in the same department.
Held at Khazar University’s Narimanov campus, the specialist lecture featured Majid Majidzadeh, a researcher from the “Early Medieval Archaeology of Azerbaijan” Department of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS. He delivered a lecture titled “The Role of Slaves and Gladiators in Ancient Roman Society and Culture.”
The lecturer addressed the origins and development of slavery in Ancient Rome, its social, public, and cultural manifestations, as well as slave uprisings and the role of gladiators. The session concluded with an engaging discussion and a Q&A segment that generated considerable interest among the students.
