A scientific-practical seminar on "Language and Society: Modern Approaches" was held at Khazar University on February 20, 2025, organized by the Department of Languages and Literature as part of the "February 21 - International Mother Language Day" framework.
The aim of the seminar was to explain the interaction between language and society using modern approaches within the principles of a changing society.
After Associate Professor Dilbar Zeynalova, Head of the Department of Languages and Literature at Khazar University, declared the seminar open, the event continued with presentations by the main speakers.
Professor Ibrahim Bayramov, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Honored Teacher and Head of the Scientific-Organizational Department of ADPU, presented on "Ways of Enriching the Vocabulary of Modern Azerbaijani Literary Language." Professor Farrukh Rustamov, Full Member of the International Pedagogical Academy, Academician of the Academy of Pedagogical and Social Sciences, Member of the Azerbaijan Journalists Union, Laureate of the "Golden Pen" Award, Honored Scientist, and Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, presented on "The Struggle for Language by Azerbaijani Enlighteners in the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries." Associate Professor Vafa Abdullayeva-Nabiyeva, UNESCO Election Group Expert, Member of UNESCO Global Youth Union, Head of the Department of Speech Culture and Monitoring at the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, presented on "Protection of Language Standards, Social Promotion." Dr. Ilkin Asgarov, Lecturer at the Department of Languages and Literature at Khazar University, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, presented on "Teaching and Promotion of the Azerbaijani Language as a Priority Direction of State Policy." The speakers answered questions from seminar participants.
Afterward, a video reflecting the main purpose of the event—showing the influence of language on society and societal changes on language—was viewed. The material, voiced by artificial intelligence, demonstrated the modern approach to our mother tongue and the current state of the Azerbaijani language's potential as a language of technology.
It should be noted that the event was held with the active participation of Khazar University students as well as 10th-grade students from "Dunya" school.
The seminar concluded with students voicing Khazar University's slogan "Every day, every hour towards excellence!" in different languages.
