The Erasmus+ Exchange program was an invaluable experience for me, which I completed at Kütahya Dumlupınar University. This university is one of the leading public universities in Turkey, attracting many international students due to its affordable tuition fees and diverse range of academic disciplines. One aspect of the university I particularly appreciated was the warm and supportive approach of the faculty and staff toward foreign students. Among the courses I attended, I found the ‘‘Turkish Education System’’ particularly compelling. I gained insights into assessment and evaluation methods, learned how to teach science to children, and explored various teaching strategies and methodologies. The professors were very understanding of the challenges I faced as an international student and were always ready to assist me when language barriers arose.
During my exchange, I also had the opportunity to voluntarily participate in the II International Staff Week, where representatives from various international universities introduced their institutions. Among the participants was Khazar University, and I had the pleasure of meeting Leyla Aliyeva, the coordinator of Khazar University’s Department of Education. Since I was the only Erasmus student at Dumlupınar University during the spring semester, I was invited to attend the event. One memorable experience was serving as an interpreter for an Italian student who did not speak Turkish. At the request of the International Office, I assisted her, which allowed me to form a meaningful friendship.
The city of Kütahya, although small, is steeped in history and known for its cultural heritage. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this unique city.
Participating in programs like Erasmus+ helps to develop critical problem-solving skills and fosters a sense of self-confidence in challenging situations. I advise students considering applying for the Erasmus+ exchange program to seize the opportunity, as it can be a truly transformative experience.
