The 2024 Planetary Health Summit & 6th Annual Meeting, a significant global event, was held on April 16–19 and co-hosted with the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health at Sunway University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Assoc. Prof. Irada Khalilova, rector, and chair of the international conferences on One Health: Problems & Solutions, represented Khazar University as a member of the esteemed Planetary Health Alliance and the Central & West Asia PHA Regional Hub.
Over 1,000 attendees from 63 countries assembled in Malaysia and online for “From Evidence to Action: Confronting Reality” at the Planetary Health Annual Meeting. On behalf of the member organization of the alliance and representative of the Central & West Asia Regional Hub, Irada Khalilova spoke about Khazar University and its involvement in various planetary health initiatives since 2018, fostering different projects on climate change and sustainable development and in COP 29 activities that will be held during November 2024 in Azerbaijan. During workshop sessions of the PHAM 2024 Summit, on behalf of the Central & West Asia PHA Regional Hub, she was involved in discussions with other regional hubs on how to make positive changes towards a healthy planet.
The conference, which continued for four days, was finalized by the adoption of the Kuala Lumpur Call to Action and the Planetary Health Roadmap and Action Plan. These documents translate extensive evidence on climate and health crises into meaningful action and are significant milestones in the global effort to address planetary health issues. During the conference, Assoc. Prof. Irada Khalilova visited the new International School of American Education and met the dean of the school, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sim Tze Ying, and provost, chair of the Young Scientists Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia, which represented the top young Malaysian scientists across all scientific disciplines, Prof. Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam. They discussed the benefits of this school to Sunway University as a whole and future collaboration possibilities.
