Razia Isaeva, Director of Development of Khazar University participated in the SPHERE seminar devoted to the universities' third mission: partnering for social and economic development on May 13-14 2024. SPHERE is a Centralised Support to the Network of Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE) financially supported by the European Commission. The Network of Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE) was established in 2007 to facilitate the modernization of higher education in third countries neighboring the EU, including the Western Balkans, Central Asia, Eastern Partnership, and the South Mediterranean Region.
This time the seminar was hosted by the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The seminar delved into the depth of the 3rd mission of universities and provided multiple case studies from across the region as well as Western countries such as Italy and Belgium. The seminar widely discussed why and how a third mission is an inclusive construct involving a deep engagement with the society and economy. Plenary discussions built around the topic discussed cases of different countries and institutions.
Razia Isaeva joined the seminar as an ERASMUS+ Higher Education Reform Expert representing Azerbaijan actively participated and contributed to the plenary discussion devoted to institutional and national strategies. She articulated her vision and insights on strategies for advancing the third mission of universities.
Along with the awareness and extension of the network, the seminar provided a chance to visit and enjoy the ancient city of Samarkand which has astonished every single participant with its historic monuments and hospitality. The “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage showcased true hospitality and generosity by hosting 2-day seminar. As one of the preeminent universities in the country, the institution highlighted the notable accomplishments of its students, as well as the advancements in infrastructure and institutional development, throughout the tour provided to the participants.
