On December 15-16, 2023, a "Creative psychology symposium" was held under the initiative of Khazar University's Psychology Department and led by Fullbright Scholarship teacher Dr. Elnur Gajiyev. The primary objective of the symposium was to address the growing demand for creative therapeutic approaches, organize a scientific and practical event in Azerbaijan, and foster broader interest and education in this therapy field.
The first day of the two-day symposium took place at "Passage 1901" in Icherisheher and comprised four sessions featuring scientific and practical studies on various creative therapies.
During the symposium's opening, Malak Karimova, the coordinator of Khazar University's Psychology Department, presented a report on the overall effectiveness, application, and scientific basis of creative therapies. Stefan Gais, Head of the Public Relations Department at the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, emphasized the significance of the Fulbright program and the unique format of this symposium in Azerbaijan.
Member of the Azerbaijan Art Union, PhD in medicine Mehriban Shamsaddinskaya made a report on “Metophoric portrait”. Azerbaijani art worker Sabina Shikhlinskaya shared her thoughts on the theme of “ Collective self " with the participants.
In the continuation of the session, clinical psychologist Dr. Elnur Gajiyev emphasized the importance and effectiveness of poetry therapy and brought to the attention practical examples in this field.
During the final session, participants engaged in panel discussions and delivered interactive speeches. Furthermore, attendees showcased their artistic abilities by creating paintings. The collaborative painting, reflecting the concept of "Collective self," garnered significant interest among symposium participants.
The second part of the symposium was held at the "Nine Sense" Creative Center organized by the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva. In this part, consisting of 3 sessions, yoga teacher Gafar Ganizade elucidated the benefits of yoga and its impact on human psychology, followed by practical yoga training. Ilhama Babayeva, a sound therapist and founder of the "Om Shri" studio, provided insights into music and sound therapy, discussing their advantages for mental and physical well-being.
The following sessions of the symposium featured Nigar Soltanova, founder of "DanceAbility Azerbaijan," who explored the mental and physical benefits of dance therapy, emphasizing its role in promoting inclusion through practical studies. Psychologist Gunel Muradova underscored the significance of general behavioral activity, highlighting the direct correlation between movement, physical activity, and mental health.
The movement and dance performances at the event's conclusion captivated the participants' interest. Certificates were then awarded to both volunteers and attendees.
