On May 24, 2022, the final of the “National Consecutive Interpretation Contest” organized by the Department of English Language and Literature was held at Khazar University's Marble Hall. 5 finalists majoring in translation from 5 universities of the country took part in the contest. Note that the finalists were determined on the basis of a three-stage selection.
In the event, which began with an introductory speech by Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, founder of Khazar University and chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, Milana Abbasova, Department Coordinator, and Firangiz Nasirova, Senior Lecturer delivered speeches as well. Then the participants translated live speeches in English and Azerbaijani. The guest speakers were Vlad Vernygora, Vice-Rector for International Relations, and Rovshan Abbasov, Head of the Department of Geography and Environment. The live speech in the form of a discussion was translated by the participants into both languages. The five-member contest- jury consisted of Kilinckhan Bayramov (Azerbaijan University of Languages), Israfil Khakiyev (Young Translators Association), Firangiz Nasirova (Khazar University, Department of English Language and Literature), Irina Orujova (Azerbaijan University of Languages and Khazar University) and Zamira Gurbanova (Khazar University, Department of English Language and Literature). The jury evaluated the participants based on pre-defined criteria. The winners of the contest are:
1st place: Fidan Cabirova - fourth year student majoring in Translation (English) at the Faculty of Translation of the Azerbaijan University of Languages;
2nd place: Narmin Abbasli, a fourth-year student majoring in Translation at Khazar University's Faculty of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences;
3rd place: Nargiz Safarova - a third-year student majoring in Translation, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality, Azerbaijan University of Tourism and Management.
The winners were awarded certificates and crystal plaques. It should be noted that the contest was first of its kind in Azerbaijan.
