On October 28, 2019, within the framework of the social project, students majoring in psychology paid visit to the Down Syndrome Rehabilitation Center, organized by Nilufar Alizade, an instructor and doctoral student at the Khazar University Department of Psychology. The aim of the project was to focus on the fact that Down syndrome is not a disease but a genetic difference, spending time with children in rehabilitation centers, playing a role in their socializing and most importantly, showing the students in practice what they have learned from the book. Second and fourth-year students participating at the project had the opportunity to directly observe the procedures at the Down Syndrome Rehabilitation Center, including live sessions with logopaedist, painting, labor, carpets, music and dance lessons as well as learned about their role, as future psychologists, in shaping of those with Down syndrome in society through direct communication with them. The students then prepared a cake with a group of children during the cooking lesson and witnessed that these children were of loving and kind nature.
The main goal of traditional social projects with students at the Khazar University Department of Psychology is to educate students on current global challenges and ensure that they are always aware of this responsibility in their future careers.
At the end, Natella Hasanova, the director of the Down Syndrome Rehabilitation Center, thanked the participants, emphasizing the importance of care and attention to children through such projects.
