Vurgun Ayyub, the Head of the Department of Languages and Literature at Khazar University, First Chairman of the State Student Admission Committee, Doctor of Philology, prominent literary scholar, public and political figure, passed away on September 24, 2019, after he was through a serious illness, in his sixty-second year.
Vurgun Alish oglu Ayyub, was born in 1957 in Ashagi Gushchu village of Tovuz region.
In 1977 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the former Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute.
During the period of 1977-1984, he worked as a teacher in Sabirabad and Tovuz regions, in 1985-1993 at the Azerbaijan Pedagogical University named after N. Tusi. In 1988 he got his degree in Doctor of Philosophy in Philology. He is the author of a book, more than 150 scientific, political and publicist articles.
He was one of the Founders and Chairman of the “Chenlibel” scientific and literary association, the first non-governmental organization established in Azerbaijan in 1986, one of the organizers of
the Azerbaijan National Liberation Movement, as well as one of the initiators of the Popular Front Party (PFP), and a member of the PFP Assembly and Management Board.
In 1992-1993, while he was in charge of the State Student Admission Committee (SSAC), he facilitated the first student admission through the testing system in Azerbaijan. Conducting a student's admission through the test method in the territory of the former Soviet Union from 1992 to present only in Azerbaijan is an honorary indication of the cultural level of our people.
Vurgun Ayyub, who has served as the Head of Department at Khazar University since 2009 until his last day, earned the respect and sympathy of the teaching staff and students with his high knowledge and erudition, sincerity and modesty.
Vurgun Ayyub’s precious memory will always live in the hearts of those who knew him.
